Churton Street Realty Gallery's Featured Artist
CAPTURED ELEMENTS ~ CAPTURED VISIONS
July 25 thru August 28
Churton Street Realty Gallery is currently featuring three artists, friends who express their creativity in different ways.
India Cain's work includes collage with found objects in rich jewel colors. She also creates "Bohemian jewelry" - pins for dress and hair. "As a multimedia artist I have a passion for abstract art forms and utilize a wide variety of color, form, texture and “found objects” in my work to express the images I visualize. Early, I developed a love and respect for recycled materials and that, combined with creating and weaving my own fibers, taught me to mix various types of materials; a lesson that has proven invaluable when working in a variety of media. I find my strength, inspiration and driving force in Creative Spirit, with all its infinite possibilities and I strive to reflect that Spirit in my work." Some of India's work can be viewed at Alamance Artisans. She is also one of three members of a music group Fyne Whyne which regularly plays at the Art on the Vine Festival and other local venues.
Larry Favorite works with ironwood and turquoise from Arizona. "I derive my greatest satisfaction as an artist from the sheer joy of doing – of being at one with the wood and releasing the beauty that is within. I love the challenge of looking at and listening to a piece of wood and letting it reveal to me what it should become. I have a tremendous sense of inner peace about my life and my work, and hope that those who touch the pieces of art I have created can feel this in the work itself." His work can be viewed on-line at Favorite Designs.
Keith Allen from Cedar Grove is a master furniture maker with a true sense of whimsy and humor. "I have made my living as a furniture designer/maker since 1989, after teaching mathematics and computer science for more than 20 years at various universities. I call some of my work "fun-iture," a word that I coined, and Fine Woodworking published with photos of two examples, in 1992. Such pieces embody humor, but are somewhat unpredictable in form. My more "serious" work often incorporates natural characteristics of wood. I habitually employ "word-working," "plain geometry," or natural themes such as stars, moons, and butterflies for design inspiration." Do you know where your furniture is tonight?
